A free teleprompter for your Mac

No download, no App Store. Open YapBetter in Chrome on your MacBook or iMac, and the script sits at the top of the screen right under the camera.

Free · no signup · your video stays on your device.

Where is the text on a MacBook?

At the top center of the screen, right under the camera in the notch or bezel. YapBetter shows a short band of 4 to 7 words there, so your eyes stay close to the lens. On a large external display, move the browser window so the band sits under your webcam.

Chrome or Safari on Mac?

Use Chrome. It supports voice-follow, so the script moves as you talk, and it is the browser we test on. In other browsers the prompter falls back to a fixed speed or manual scrolling. Safari support is still being tested.

The first time, macOS asks to let the browser use the camera and mic. If you said no by mistake, open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Camera (and Microphone), and turn the browser on.

MacBook webcam or iPhone camera?

Both work.

  • MacBook webcam only: raise the laptop so the camera is at eye level and face a window.
  • iPhone in front of the screen: prop the phone just under the prompter band and record in the iPhone camera app. The Mac shows the cues and judges your delivery. See the laptop and phone setup.

What happens during a take?

The prompter scrolls with your voice. Each cued word ticks when you hit it: louder, softer, pitch down, pause, punch. After the take you get a score out of 100 with up to 5 fixes, and you can redo just the lines that missed.

Is there a native Mac app?

No. YapBetter is a web app, so it stays up to date and needs no install. If you need a native app with mirror mode for a teleprompter glass, our comparison of free teleprompter apps lists options.
