A free teleprompter app with nothing to install
Open a tab and you have a teleprompter. Paste your script, see where to go louder, pause and land the word, and record with your laptop camera or your phone.
Free · no signup · your video stays on your device.
Why use a browser teleprompter app?
Most teleprompter apps live in an app store. You download them, sign up, and often hit a paywall before your first take. YapBetter runs in a browser tab. You open the page, allow the camera and mic, and paste your script.
That also means it works on the device you already write on. Most scripts start on a laptop, so the prompter is there too. There is no file to send to your phone and no app to update.
What makes this teleprompter app different?
A normal teleprompter app is a script reader: it scrolls text at a speed you set. YapBetter scrolls your text too, and it adds three things on top.
- Delivery cues. Words get marks: a bigger red word means louder, a green word sitting lower means drop your pitch, corner brackets mean pause. You see them in the editor before you record.
- A rehearsal that shows the difference. Say one line plain, then again with the cues. Both play back with your loudness and pitch drawn as lines, so you can see where the second take came alive.
- A judge. While you record, the app checks loudness, pitch, pace, eye contact, framing and light. After the take you get a score out of 100, up to 5 fixes, and a button to redo just the lines that missed.
How does it scroll?
Pick one of three modes:
- Voice-follow. The prompter listens and moves with you. If you stop, it waits. This works in Chrome.
- Fixed speed. It starts when you start talking and moves at the pace you set.
- Manual. Use the space bar or arrow keys.
Do I need a phone?
No. Laptop-only works: the webcam records and the screen prompts. If you want your phone's better camera, prop the phone in front of the laptop screen. The laptop shows the cues just above the phone lens and listens, and the phone records in its own camera app. The laptop setup guide shows how to place it.
Is it a good fit for you?
YapBetter is built for creators: talking-head videos, TikTok, Reels, Shorts, YouTube and UGC. If you need mirror mode for a glass teleprompter rig, or a native app that works offline, a different app is a better pick today. We compare the options fairly in best free teleprompter apps.
Not sure how long your script is? Paste it into the script timer first.
FAQ
Is the YapBetter teleprompter app free?
Yes. There is no signup and no paywall on the teleprompter, the cues or the take score.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
It opens in a mobile browser, but today it is built and tested for desktop Chrome. Many creators use the laptop as the prompter and the phone as the camera.
Can I import my script?
Paste it in. Copy from Google Docs, Notes or any editor and paste into the script box.
Does the app change my words?
No. It adds cues on top of your script. Text suggestions, like making a stiff line sound more spoken, only go in if you accept them.
