Best Free Teleprompter Apps for Creators (Honest Comparison)

Updated · 6 min read

The best free teleprompter app depends on what you need. CuePrompter is a no-signup web prompter, Speakflow gives a limited free tier with voice-follow, BIGVU records on its free plan with a watermark, and YapBetter is a free web prompter with voice-follow in Chrome. This comparison is accurate as of November 2026, and each claim links to the tool's own page.

Free tiers change often. Check each page before you rely on a limit. Where I could not confirm something, the table says "not confirmed."

Which free teleprompter apps are worth comparing?

Six tools:

  • CuePrompter
  • Speakflow
  • BIGVU
  • Teleprompter.com
  • PromptSmart
  • YapBetter

I did not test every tool end to end. I read each tool's own pages and the App Store listing for PromptSmart. YapBetter is my own product, so weigh that when you read its section.

What does CuePrompter offer?

CuePrompter is a browser-based prompter. Its own site says there is no signup and no download, and that there are no watermarks and no limits. It has a mirror mode for physical teleprompter glass.

It does not do voice-follow or recording. The site points to Teleprompter.com's apps for those.

Where it is better: If you only need text scrolling at a steady speed, it is the simplest option and it works at once. It is also a good fit if you already use a hardware rig, since it mirrors text.

Where it is weaker: No voice-follow, no recording and no coaching.

What does Speakflow offer?

Speakflow has a free plan at $0 a month with no credit card. It includes the teleprompter with auto and manual scrolling, script creation and editing, and 7-day script history.

Its voice-activated scrolling, called Flow, gets 10 minutes per month on the free plan. Paid plans start at $15 a month, billed yearly. The free plan does not list video recording. Recording comes with the paid Plus plan.

Where it is better: It is built for people who present on video calls. The Overlay feature floats a prompter over Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, but it is a paid feature.

Where it is weaker: The free voice-follow cap is small. If you rehearse often, 10 minutes goes fast.

What does BIGVU offer?

BIGVU's free plan is $0 for one person. Videos are 720p and watermarked, with up to 9 minutes per video. It includes the teleprompter with recording and AI scripts, and 500 AI credits per month.

Paid plans start at $12 a month. The page does not mention voice-activated scrolling, so I list it as not confirmed.

Where it is better: It puts the prompter, recording, AI script help and social scheduling in one product, so you do not need a separate app for each step.

Where it is weaker: The watermark on the free plan matters if you post the video. HD and 4K export need a paid plan.

What does Teleprompter.com offer?

Teleprompter.com runs on iOS, Android, macOS and the web. The free Starter plan includes cloud script storage, custom fonts and colors, and basic remote control. Recordings on Starter include a watermark.

Paid plans add 4K recording without a watermark, mirroring for teleprompter rigs, advanced remote control and automatic subtitles. Its voice-following mode, VoiceGlide, is one of four scroll modes. The page does not say whether VoiceGlide is part of the free plan, so I list that as not confirmed.

Where it is better: It has native mobile apps and Apple Watch support. If you want to shoot with the rear camera of your phone and control the prompter by remote, a native app is a better fit than a browser tab.

Where it is weaker: The best features, such as clean 4K and mirroring, are paid.

What does PromptSmart offer?

PromptSmart is an iPhone and iPad app. Its App Store listing says it is free to download with in-app purchases. VoiceTrack, preset-speed scrolling and Selfie Mode with HD recording need an active PromptSmart+ subscription or an introductory trial.

PromptSmart+ is listed at $8.99 a month or $79.99 a year. VoiceTrack scrolls with your speech and holds your place if you go off-script. It supports 15 languages, and the listing says language packs are $29.99 each.

Where it is better: Voice tracking is its main focus, and it handles going off script. It also has multi-language support.

Where it is weaker: The free download is mostly a trial of the paid app. The listing I checked covers iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision.

What does YapBetter offer?

YapBetter is a free web teleprompter that runs in the browser with no account. You paste your script, and the app never rewrites your words. Enhance can add delivery cues such as LOUDER, SOFTER, PAUSE and PUNCH, and it can suggest text edits that you accept or reject.

On a live take, the prompter follows your voice in Chrome, scrolls at a fixed speed, or you move it by hand. It checks loudness, pitch, pace, eye contact, framing and light, then Review gives a score out of 100 with up to 5 fixes. You can record with the laptop webcam, or set the laptop as the prompter and record on a phone propped in front of the screen. See teleprompter on laptop, record on phone.

Video stays on your device. The script text and take audio are sent to Google Gemini to make cues and coaching.

Where others are better: YapBetter runs in a browser, so it is not a native mobile app. Voice-follow needs Chrome. I have not listed mirroring for hardware rigs, so if you use a beam-splitter rig, CuePrompter or Teleprompter.com are safer picks. It is also a newer product than established apps like PromptSmart or Teleprompter.com, so it has a shorter track record.

Where it fits: If you want a free prompter that also coaches your delivery, look at the free online teleprompter, the AI teleprompter page, or the teleprompter for creators page.

Which one should you pick?

  • Steady scroll, no account, hardware rig: CuePrompter.
  • Voice-follow in short bursts and a good script editor: Speakflow.
  • Prompter, recording and captions in one app: BIGVU, if you accept the free watermark.
  • Native mobile app with remote and watch control: Teleprompter.com.
  • Voice tracking on iPhone, with a subscription: PromptSmart.
  • Free browser prompter that coaches delivery: YapBetter.

You can also use two. Use a simple prompter for filming and a coaching tool for practice.

Whichever you pick, the script matters more than the app. See write a script that sounds spoken and read a teleprompter naturally.

If you want to try YapBetter, paste your script into YapBetter and run one take. It costs nothing to compare.
