Record on your iPhone. Read from your laptop.
Phone teleprompter apps squeeze the script onto a tiny screen. Put the phone in front of your laptop instead: the phone records, the laptop shows the cues just above its lens.
Free · no signup · your video stays on your device.
Why not just use a teleprompter app on the phone?
You can, and for some shots it is the right call. But on a phone, the script competes with your face for a few inches of screen, the text sits away from the front camera, and the selfie camera is often weaker than the back one. A laptop screen is big, and you can place the phone so its lens sits right under the words.
How the iPhone + laptop setup works
- Open YapBetter on your laptop and paste your script.
- Prop your iPhone upright in front of the laptop screen, lens at the top, just below the prompter band.
- Open the iPhone camera, pick video, and press record.
- Start the take on the laptop. It scrolls with your voice, shows the cues, and judges your delivery through its own mic and webcam.
- Stop both. The video is on your phone. The score and fixes are on your laptop.
The same steps work on Android. A full walk-through with distances and light is in how to use a teleprompter on your laptop and record on your phone.
Can I use YapBetter on the iPhone alone?
It opens in a mobile browser, but today it is built and tested for desktop Chrome. Phone browsers are next. A phone-as-camera mode that pairs with the laptop is planned. Until then, the setup above gives you the phone's camera with the laptop's prompter and judge.
What do I get that a phone app does not give me?
- Delivery cues on the words: louder, pitch down, punch, pause.
- A rehearsal that plays a plain line and a cued line back to back.
- A score after each take with the exact lines to redo.
